My book, "The C++ Standard Library Extensions: a Tutorial and
Reference", published by Addison-Wesley, is now available from an online
bookstore near you. It covers all of TR1. For more details, see
www.petebecker.com/tr1book.

Good news.

And I can compile/test all the examples using boost.tr1, right?
Or I need Dinkumware's library for your book?

Dinkumware offers the *only* complete implementation of TR1.
It works out of the box with VC++ and gcc v3.x and later.
You can get various interesting bits from Boost, or with gcc
(libstdc++), however.

TR1 consists of three major components:

1) Facilities that mostly began in Boost, then were adapted for TR1.

2) Special math functions.

3) The C99 library additions.
Hum, I think I'm mostly interessted in (1) since I don't need any

special maths functions nor any C99 library additions. ^^

Quote:

Boost, of course, has some version of just about everything in (1),
but not always in a form that's completely compatible with TR1.
Yes, Boost is working on closing the gap, but last we tested it isn't
completely there yet. And *nobody* but us has (2) and (3) in any
form close to what is required by TR1.
Thanks, I didn't read the TR1 drafts so I thought(!) boost has a

complete implementation. Wink

Note that (1) and (3) have already been adopted into C++0x, the
next version of Standard C++.

I ever thought TR1 was completely accepted for the C++0x Standard Oo
I see I was wrong ^^ :)

I don't know what you mean by CVS here, but AFAIK my comments above
still apply.
I meant the boost CVS where the development version of boost is, there

you could take a look at its current state. But it doesn't really matter
what I meant ;)

Thank you very much for your explanation. :)

INDEED, I just got my pre-ordered copy from 'bookpool.com' on Friday.
I spent
some time reading various sections, and can only say that it
is an excellent read and well worth the price.

Thanks Pete!

P.S. Supposedly this book is Safari ennabled, but as of this morning,
it's not yet available on their site.

I'll pass this on to Addison-Wesley. Thanks.

But not until the end of the month, it seems, on the Right side (as opposed
to the Left side, of course) of the Pond ... or so I was told yesterday at
Foyles in Charing Cross Road (which was once famous as the biggest bookshop
in the world).

Could you please remind your publishers that there are people in other
countries than the US who would like the chance to be among the first to
give them money?
