May be this will require some const_casting (*to* const) but I'm sure

In this case my preference here is to typedef to const_iterator
typedef list<int>::const_iterator const_iterator;
And class graph will have no typedef iterator. This reflects the usage
that
there is only a readonly iterator.
for ( graph::const_iterator i = g.begin(); i != g.end(); i++ ) {
std::cout << *i;
}
